Grants

Here is a brief outline of the grants available to improve your buildings BER rating. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any specific queries.

Better Energy Homes (Formerly Home Energy Saving Scheme)

The Better Energy Homes scheme re-opened on 8th of  December. There are two key changes:

  • Revised grant amounts for wall insulation and BER
  • Internal and external wall insulation grants will no longer be one single amount but rather different grant levels will apply depending on the applicant’s house type.

Grants for attic insulation and all heating system upgrades including solar remain unchanged.

A summary of the new grant levels, and how they relate to house type, is shown below:

*Cash Grants are set value unless expenditure is below the set value, in which case the actual expenditure will be reimbursed.

A Building Energy Rating (BER) is an integral part of all grant applications under the HES scheme, whereby homeowners must undertake a BER on their home after grant aided works have been completed. A homeowner is entitled to BER funding of €50 once per home. This funding will be applied to your grant application automatically provided you have never applied previously for BER funding. You will be informed during the online grant application process if BER funding is available for your home or as part of your Letter of Grant Offer if you have applied through the post.

Please note the minimum grant amount for the first application must be €400. A BER grant, where applicable, does not count towards the €400 minimum.

In the instance where a Contractor is completing works within his own home then only the cost of materials will be deemed qualifying expenditure.

Grants are claimed after the measures are completed and the contractor has been paid by or entered a financing agreement with the homeowner.

Please note that while you are entitled to apply for each Measure there is a minimum requirement that the grant amount in the first application must be €400 or greater. The BER grant cannot form part of this €400 amount.

The national scheme is open to all homeowners. You can register your interest in the scheme by contacting SEI at hes@sei.ie or phoning SEI on 1850 927 000 or call us on 085 830 1742 if you need help applying.

The following conditions will apply in the evaluation of grant applications and all conditions must be met in advance of any approval of a grant.

Applicant must be the homeowner i.e. must have full possession of the property where the system is to be installed.

The applicant must ensure grant approval is received before proceeding with any product purchase (including deposit payments) or installation work applicant must fully complete the Greener Homes Application Form (the "Application Form") with information valid at time of application product must be listed, at the date of application, on the registered product list installer must be listed, at the date of application, on the registered installer list or be prepared to meet the criteria for inclusion on this list (where the installer is not on the list, customers are advised to have their installer apply immediately).
